Lincoln, Neb., November 14th, 2014 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America received the society's Star Chapter Award for the first time in the chapter's history on Nov. 3. The UNL group was recognized as a chapter that exceeded chapter and professional development standards set by PRSSA National during the 2013-14 academic year.

The PRSSA Star Chapter Award, created in 2009, recognizes chapters across the United States that succeed in completing eight or more of 10 specific requirements. This year, UNL PRSSA is among 30 other chapters being presented with this accomplishment.

"It's a tremendous honor to be nationally recognized for the work we have done this past year," said Ben Preston, UNL PRSSA president. "We've been seeing a steady growth of new members due to our changes in programming and opportunities for members. These changes were a big contributor, I think, to why we were given this award."

UNL's chapter has steadily expanded its membership numbers since its founding with 12 members in 1998. Now, there are more than 40 active members in the chapter.
