Sheldon's Robert Schatz exhibition to open with reception, artist talk

            Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will open the exhibition, "A New Line of Thinking: Recent Sculpture by Robert Schatz," on Jan. 16 with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. and a gallery talk by the artist at 5:30 p.m.

            Schatz intends his sculpture as a response to the fast-paced, pixel-mediated, jet-set lifestyle of 21st-century culture, manipulating his materials intuitively, allowing their natural inclinations to manifest.

            Born in Allentown, Pa., Schatz earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton. He later pursued post-baccalaureate studies in fine art at Massachusetts College of Art and The Art Institute of Boston. His work is included in the collections of the University of Scranton, Southern Methodist University, the U.S. Department of State, and the Harvard University Art Museums. Schatz lives and works in New York City.

            Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets, houses a permanent collection of more than 12,000 objects focusing on American art. Sheldon is open free to the public during regular hours: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Monday.
