'Archie's Late Night Party' set for June 25

Lincoln, Neb., June 23rd, 2015 —

"Archie" and his fossilized friends at the University of Nebraska State Museum in Morrill Hall -- 14th and Vine streets on City Campus -- are staying up late to explore science and natural history topics through hands-on activities Thursday, June 25.

The all-ages event offers activities on topics such as astronomy, chemistry and zoology, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Families will learn more about nocturnal animals and will be able to examine the night sky. Activities will include live animal encounters, Mueller Planetarium fulldome shows, bedtime stories with museum mascot "Archie," constellation identification and more. Visitors will be able to take a short walk to the UNL Student Observatory to look at the night sky through telescopes, grab a snack in the "Whole Foods Late Night Snack Shack" and pose for a picture in the Emerald Isle Productions photo booth.

Participating partners include Lincoln City Libraries, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission's Project WILD, Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center, Space, Cyber and Telecommunications Law, UNL College of Law, UNL Student Observatory, UNL Wildlife Club, Lincoln Parks and Recreation, Pioneers Park Nature Center and the Lawrence Bruner Graduate Entomology Club. Event sponsors are Bellino Fireworks, Emerald Isle Productions, KLKN-Channel 8 and Whole Foods Market-Lincoln.
