Lincoln, Neb., July 15th, 2015 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has suspended its chapter of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity for two years, according to Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Juan N. Franco.

“There is evidence to support the need to address issues of climate and culture in this chapter, including the use of alcohol,” Franco said.

The suspension is in effect until May 2017. The suspension period can be shortened by one year if the fraternity takes agreed-upon action to address the issues, Franco said.

The suspension means that freshmen cannot reside in the chapter house at 1433 R St., and that the chapter will not have a formal affiliation with the university and its chapter house will not be a university approved housing unit.

Alpha Tau Omega has been affiliated with UNL since 1897.
