'Pulse' Fashion Show to Celebrate Textiles, Clothing and Design Seniors
Senior textile and apparel design students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present "Pulse," a runway event designed and produced by students, at 7:30 p.m. April 25 in the ballroom of the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St.
The focus of "Pulse" is the senior students' experimental work. Student designers will also premiere their individual ready-to-wear lines that reflect skills in draping, digital printing and color forecasting. J.D. Edwards Students to Present Design Studio Projects
Students in the J.D. Edwards Honors Program in Computer Science and Management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present their capstone projects April 25 during their annual Design Studio project celebration.
The projects will be on display in the Kauffman Center, north of the Nebraska Union from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Beginning at 2:30, David Keck, executive director of the program, will lead the presentation of the projects to the project partners. more...

UNL Tractor Test Museum Holds 10th Annual Open House
The Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host its 10th annual open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.
Throughout the day, an exhibition of power will be displayed on the newly constructed Nebraska Tractor Test Track featuring 2008 John Deere Tractors from 100 to 530 horsepower. 'Poets on Painters' Exhibit Opens at Sheldon Museum of Art
A visual and literary exhibition that pairs 20 contemporary poets with 20 contemporary paintings, "Poets on Painters," opens April 25 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Sheldon Museum of Art. Each poet's response to a painting will be displayed alongside the artwork.
At the exhibition's opening reception, from 5-7 p.m., winners in Sheldon's recent poetry contest will be honored and they will read their poems about Sheldon artworks that inspired them. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. more...

The Counterfeiters and Gashole Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents The Counterfeiters and Gashole. Both films will show through April 24.
Adapted from Adolf Burger's memoir The Devil's Workshop, The Counterfeiters is a skillful, absorbing, Oscar-winning Austrian feature that involves a Russian-Jewish counterfeiter (expertly played by Karl Markovics) who gets arrested in Berlin, winds up in a German concentration camp in 1944, and is put in charge of a secret forgery unit. Staffed by prisoners who've been granted special privileges, the unit counterfeits pounds and dollars in a plan to wreck the British and American economies, and one of the prisoners, a member of the communist resistance, attempts to sabotage the effort. Written and directed by the able Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Inheritors), this poses some tricky moral questions, and its troubling ambiguities rank a cut above the dubious uplift of Schindler's List. - Jonathan Rosenbaum, The Chicago Reader
Gashole is a new documentary film about the history of oil prices and the future of alternative fuels. The film, narrated by Peter Gallagher, currently on a national tour replete with special appearances by its directors, features interviews with Doane College professors Les Manns and Brian Pauwels. Directed by Jeremy Wagener & Scott D. Roberts, the film takes a wide, yet detailed examination of our dependence on foreign supplies of oil. The film examines many different potential solutions to our oil dependence. Starting with claims of buried technology that dramatically improves gas mileage, to navigating bureaucratic governmental roadblocks, evaluating different alternative fuels that are technologically available now, and questioning the American consumer's reluctance to embrace alternatives, it examimes how our country has become dependent on imported oil. If you buy gas, you should see this movie.
