East Campus Dessert Competition is Friday

The fifth annual East Campus Dessert Competition will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Arbor Suite, Nebraska East Union. Eat or compete in four categories for free! For rules and registration information, visit the Student Involvement website.

 

Death Penalty Discussion Hosted In Union Tonight

You're invited to a discussion about Nebraska's death penalty legislation, LB 36 and LB 306, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Union Auditorium. Panelists will include Senator Brenda Council and J. Kirk Brown, Solicitor General of NE. Audience members can submit questions to the panel of some of Nebraska's foremost authorities on the death penalty.

Chavez Legacy to be Celebrated With Documentary, Panel on American Dream

The life and legacy of Cesar Chavez will be celebrated with a panel discussion and presentation of the documentary, "We the People: An American Dream and Nightmare," by Luis Peon-Casanova, 6 p.m. March 24 at the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St., at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The presentation begins with the showing of the documentary, followed by a panel discussion. It is free and open to the public. more...

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents The Oscar-Nominated Short Films of 2009, A Thousand Years Of Good Prayers. All films will screen through March 26.

The Oscar-Nominated Short Films of 2009 is a program showcasing the Academy Award nominees and winners in the Animated Short Film and Live Action Short categories. For a full list of films, visit the Ross website.

After working on mainstream Hollywood comedies such as Maid In Manhattan and The Last Holiday, director Wayne Wang returns to independent dramas with A Thousand Years Of Good Prayers. In this film, Mr. Shi (Henry O) comes to the United States to see his divorced daughter, Yilan (Faye Yu). Mr. Shi soon discovers that it wasn't just age and the distance separating him from his daughter, and he tries to learn more about Yilan, despite her best efforts.
