Renewable energy documentary, Q&A with Fortenberry
The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications present a screening of "Renewable Energy and Nebraska's Future" at 6:30 p.m. at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center, 313 N. 13th St. "Renewable Energy and Nebraska's Future" is a one-hour documentary that explores the opportunities and challenges of expanding renewable energy resources in Nebraska. It was produced by students at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Prior to the screening of "Renewable Energy and Nebraska's Future," students will discuss the making of the documentary. The screening will be followed by a discussion and question and answer session with Fortenberry about renewable energy in Nebraska and the nation. more...

Gender Studies Historian Joan Jacobs Brumberg to Present Two Talks
Joan Jacobs Brumberg, professor emerita in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University, will present two lectures April 20 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The first event, an informal discussion titled "Youth in Peril," will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St. The second, titled "Fasting Girls: A Historical Perspective on Anorexia Nervosa," will begin at 7 p.m. in the Nebraska Union. Both are free and open to the public. more...

Sculptural Hats, Illustrations in 'Pretty Good Things' at Hillestad Gallery
University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate student Mary Pattavina will present her thesis project work in an exhibit titled "Pretty Good Things: Thesis Edition!" April 20 through May 15 at UNL's Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery.
Eight watercolor illustrations and eight sculptural hats in the exhibit describe the story of a female character traveling through the natural world in which she exists as placid, graceful and simultaneously awkward. The hats and illustrations encourage viewers to experience feelings of fantasy and escapism. The hats are not traditional hats like fedoras, bowlers, or berets but rather architectural swooping textile concoctions engineered using traditional and unconventional methods of millinery. more...

MFA Thesis Exhibition III Opens
The final MFA Thesis Exhibition opens today at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln city campus. Three Master of Fine Arts candidates in the Department of Art and Art History will show their work in the exhibition.
MFA Thesis Exhibition III will run April 20-24 and features the work of John Carrasco, Autumn Cipala and Seth Green. A closing reception will be held April 24 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

The Harris Center for Judaic Studies and the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present "Returning to Babel: Jewish Latin American Experiences and Representations" April 19-20 at UNL. All symposium events are free and open to the public, and will be held in the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St.
The question of Jewish presence in the history, cultures and societies of Latin America -- and the concern with the exclusiveness and marginality of the Jewish communities of Latin America -- is being reevaluated by scholars worldwide. more...
