Quilting Celebrity Marianne Fons to Present Benefit Lecture at Quilt Museum

Marianne Fons, well-known to millions of quilters nationwide as co-editor in chief of Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting magazine and co-host of the public television series of the same name, will speak Nov. 14 at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum, 1523 N. 33rd St.

Her talk, "Why We Quilt," begins at 3 p.m. Tickets for the event are on sale through the museum office. Lecture-only admission is $22 for museum members, $25 for non-members. Call (402) 472-6549 to reserve a seat. Proceeds from the lecture will benefit the museum. more...

Pablo Ziegler's Quartet for New Tango at Lied Center Nov. 13

Latin Grammy-winners Pablo Ziegler and Nestor Torres will blend classic tango rhythms with cool jazz with a performance of Pablo Ziegler's Quartet for New Tango at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Tickets for this performance are $29. UNL students with a valid ID, as well as youth age 18 and younger, may purchase tickets for half price. Call the Lied Ticket Office at (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for ticket availability. Regular ticket office hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Equestrian Team Prepares for Home Show This Weekend

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Equestrian club team will host a Western Show on Nov. 14-15 at the R. B. Warren Arena on the east side of the Animal Science Complex on the East Campus. Show sessions will be on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and at 9 a.m. Sunday. The team will compete with eight other schools from Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma.

The club team practices several evenings during the week. The 50 members of the team compete in Western and Hunt Seat shows.

Theatrix Continues Season With Speech and Debate

Theatrix, the student theatre organization under the auspices of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film continues its 2009-2010 season with Stephen Karam's Speech and Debate, a glimpse into the life of three high school teens as they fight stereotypes and make discoveries of sexuality and identity.

Speech and Debate will run tonight at 7:30 p.m., November 13th at 7:30 p.m., November 14th at 7:30 p.m., and November 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the Lab Theatre on the 3rd floor of the Temple Building, 12th and R St. in Lincoln, Nebraska. Individual Show Tickets are $6 (some user fees may be applied) at UNL Theatre Tickets website or at the theatre the evening of performance (subject to availability).

Acrobatics, theatrics and martial arts combine for a high-energy showdown of power. Direct from China, the Shaolin Warriors bring the remarkable skill, stunning movement and spectacular imagery of kung fu to the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14.
