IGERT Grant VAN BRUNT VISITORS CENTER, 11AM
IGERT Grant Celebration Today

UNL celebrates a $3.1 million grant from the National Science Foundation for a new, multidisciplinary graduate education program that will prepare future scientists, policymakers and natural resource managers to address increasingly complex global water issues.

The campus community is invited to the grant celebration at 11 a.m. today at the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Prem Paul, vice chancellor for research and economic development, Craig Allen, professor of natural resources and program leader, and Sherilyn Fritz, professor of geosciences and a program co-leader, will outline the program.

The five-year grant from NSF's Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship Program, known as IGERT, will establish an education project focused on resilience and adaptive governance in stressed watersheds. This collaborative program will integrate scientific, social, economic and legal aspects of managing complex water issues and will train graduate students from many disciplines. More than 20 UNL faculty are collaborating on this program. They will work closely with participating students who will study stressed watersheds in the U.S. and abroad.
