UNL Actuarial Science Program named a Center of Actuarial Excellence
The Society of Actuaries has recognized the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Actuarial Science Program as one of its first Centers of Actuarial Excellence. The society has renewed the emphasis on strengthening the role of academics within the actuarial profession to capitalize on the potential to enhance research and intellectual capital development. Strong academics can help the profession grow stronger, and play an integral role in advancing actuarial knowledge.
Criteria for the designation include a requirement for a degree program, a curriculum that covers the society's learning objectives, a minimum number of high quality graduates each year, tenured faculty and connection to the industry. This year is the first year for the recognition and only 12 schools were selected. more...

'Dan Christensen: 40 Years of Painting' Continues at Sheldon
In collaboration with the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, the Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present "Dan Christensen: Forty Years of Painting," a survey of paintings by the Nebraska native post-painterly abstract artist, through the end of this month.
Christensen (1942-2007) was described by art critic Clement Greenberg as "one of the painters on whom the course of American Art depends." The exhibition documents Christensen's quest to understand the possibilities of color, paint and pictorial space. Though long associated with the Color Field movement, Christensen's relentless experimentation with tools and techniques, while making him resistant to any one label or category, places him among this country's most ambitious abstract and gestural painters. more...
