Big Event 2010

More than 2,010 volunteers are on hand for the Big Event April 10 -- mostly students but some faculty/staff volunteers helping dozens of organizations and individuals clean up and get organized.

The ASUN-sponsored event is in its fifth year. You'll see them in their Big Event t-shirts all over the city starting at 8 a.m., with a lunch at Campus Rec, ending at 4 p.m.

UNL's University Theatre Completes Spring Season with Bloody Poetry
Bloody Poetry

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film's University Theatre closes its Spring season with Bloody Poetry, written by Howard Brenton and directed by assistant professor of theatre Ian Borden April 9, 10 & 14, 15, 16, 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Studio Theatre, first floor Temple Building, 12th & R streets.

Tickets are $16; $14 faculty, staff and seniors; and $10 students. Tickets are available at the Lied Center Ticket Office, 301 North 12th Street, by calling 472-4747 or on-line at the UNL Theatre Tickets website.

Wizard Of Oz
Lied Center Adds 3rd Performance of 'Wizard of Oz'

"There's no place like home, there's no place like home..." "The Wizard of Oz," one of the greatest family musicals of all time, is now adding a third show to their stop in Lincoln. Performances will be held at the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 3 and 7:30 p.m. April 10 and 2 p.m. April 11.

Tickets for this performance are $54, $49, and $44. Students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and other participating colleges with a valid ID, and youths age 18 and younger, may purchase tickets for half price. Call the Lied Ticket Office at (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for availability. Regular ticket office hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Academic Planning Committee Budget Hearing is April 9

An agenda has been released for the APC hearing on proposed budget reductions, to be held April 9 at 1:30 p.m. in the Nebraska East Union. The task of the APC is to review the Chancellor's proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university's academic mission and approve them or suggest other ways of meeting the budget reduction goal. To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions.

Lincoln Symphony Orchestra
Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra to Perform at Lied Center

Three world-class pianists will celebrate the music of Chopin, Schumann and Liszt with Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. April 9. The LSO, directed by Edward Polochick, celebrates its 83rd season with a stellar musical selection highlighting the range and virtuosity of the piano. Joining the orchestra will be three spectacular piano soloists: Gila Goldstein and Alexander Dossin, both members of the American Liszt Society, and the talented and internationally acclaimed Brazilian pianist Arnaldo Cohen.

OASIS Hosts Hand Game Night
Native American Hand Game

On Friday April 9, the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services will be hosting a Native American Hand Game Night. The event will be held at the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center in the room 212 at 6 p.m. The Omaha Hand Game is a guessing game in which anyone can participate.

A Native American Blessing for the new building will be conducted by Mitchell Parker, Omaha Tribe, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. For more information please contact Bill Waters 472-7721.

 

Chancellor Presents Awards for GLBT Contributions
Be The Change

Chancellor Harvey Perlman will present the Chancellor's Awards for Outstanding Contributions to the GLBT Community at a reception and ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on April 9, 2010 in the Nebraska Union.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding efforts to create an inclusive, respectful, and safe climate for members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. These efforts may be by an individual student or a student organization within the institution. The award recipient must have demonstrated an on-going commitment to the GLBT community.

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Fish Tank and A Prophet. Fish Tank will screen through April 15, while A Prophet will show through April 22.
