Institute For Ethnic Studies Hosts Talk

Philip Deloria
Philip J. Deloria, Professor of History and Director of the Program in American Culture at the University of Michigan, will present a talk titled, "Toward an Indian Abrstract: Mary Sully and the Locations of American/Indian Studies" at 1:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union. The talk is presented by the Institute for Ethnic Studies.
Deloria is the author of Indians in Unexpected Places (2004) and Playing Indian (1998). He is also the co-editor (with Neal Salisbury) of the Blackwell Companion to American Indian History (2002). Deloria was the president of the American Studies Association (May 2008-May 2009) and a member of the governing council of the Organization of American Historians. There will be a book signing after the lecture.
'The Shirt' Revealed Today
The Every year a T-Shirt is designed by the students of the University of Nebraska to support Husker Football season. Proceeds from the shirt sales go to fund ASUN programs. Today, the Official 2010 Husker t-shirt will be unveiled from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on the Union Plaza.
Free food will be provided by Mr. Goodcents, and there will be appearances from Herbie Husker, the Husker Cheerleaders, and the UNL Pep Band. The shirts will be available at the University bookstore for $15 (students) or $20 (non-students).
UNL Hosts Scholars for CYFS Summit on Research in Early Childhood

The Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools will host a variety of scholars and speakers for their CYFS Summit on Research in Early Childhood: Creating Connections Between Research and Practice conference.
The conference will be opened with a welcome by University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken and Susan Sheridan, director of the center. It will feature a keynote by Karen Bierman, professor of psychology at Penn State. Breakout sessions on early learning and development, family engagement and professional development will take place throughout the day, with a roundtable discussion on "Building Bridges Between Research, Policy and Practice."
APC hearing April 23
Deadline for submitting written responses or sending a notice to appear on the updated proposed recommendations from the Dean for the FY2010 budget reductions in the College of Arts and Sciences prior to the April 23 budget hearing is 3 p.m. April 16. The updated proposed recommendations are available for download.
Responses and notices to appear should be sent to Academic Planning Committee, c/o Dr. William Nunez, APC Secretary, 332 Canfield Administration Building, 0435, or wnunez2@unl.edu by 3 p.m., April 16.
Ferraro to Discuss 'Searching for Snakes on the Great Plains'

It's a mission most folks would probably shy away from: the search for as many of Nebraska's snakes as can be found. But that has been the calling for at least 20 years of University of Nebraska-Lincoln herpetologist Dennis Ferraro, who will present a public discussion of his never-ending hunt April 14 in the next Paul A. Olson Seminar in Great Plains Studies at UNL.
"Searching for Snakes on the Great Plains: A Herpetologist's Quest to Obtain Crucial Information on Nebraska's Amphibians, Turtles and Reptiles" will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St. The seminar and a 3 p.m. reception in the museum are free and open to the public. more...
Weeklong Gaughan Dedication Events Highlight New Multicultural Center
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will celebrate diversity, students and family April 12-16 at a week of dedication events surrounding the new Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center. Today, students from 17 countries ranging from Haiti to Pakistan will provide information booths about important pieces of their culture.
The event will take place in the new center, 1505 S St., on UNL's City Campus. The formal dedication event is 5 p.m. April 16. more...

UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Fish Tank and A Prophet. Fish Tank will screen through April 15, while A Prophet will show through April 22.
