School of Music Presents Jazz Ensembles I & II

The UNL School of Music will present Jazz Ensembles I & II at 7:30 p.m., in the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium at the Sheldon Museum of Art The concert will feature the music of composer, educator, and saxophonist Dan Gailey. This event is free and open to the public.

Gailey, saxophonist/composer/arranger, is the director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Music and Dance at the University of Kansas, where he directs Jazz Ensemble I and Jazz Combo I; produces the annual KU Jazz Festival, now in its 27th year; and is the founder and producer of the annual KU Jazz Workshop, a week-long summer institute for high school students and teachers now in its 11th year. He is the recipient of the 1996 IAJE Gil Evans Fellowship Award, an annual award which identifies an emerging jazz composer from an international field of candidates.

 

Academic Planning Committee Budget Hearing is April 23

An agenda has been released for the APC hearing on proposed budget reductions, to be held April 23 at 1 p.m. in the Colonial Room of the Nebraska Union. The task of the APC is to review the Chancellor's proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university's academic mission and approve them or suggest other ways of meeting the budget reduction goal. To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions.

International Water for Food Conference
Water for Food Conference Registration Continues

Registration is now open and posters are invited for the second international Water for Food conference May 2-5, which will feature leading experts from around the world. The University of Nebraska and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are hosting the 2010 conference, Water for Food: Growing More with Less, at Lincoln's Cornhusker Marriott Hotel. The conference is designed to foster dialogue among international experts on key issues related to the use of water for agriculture.

Conference participants are invited to submit poster abstracts for the juried poster competition by April 5. The conference will feature a juried poster session and reception with awards for the best posters. See the poster session Web page for poster requirements, deadlines and to submit your abstracts online.

UNL faculty and students who participate in the poster session will receive full admission to the conference at no cost. Details about conference costs, schedule, speaker information and the online registration also are available on the conference Web site.

 

Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources Announces Vice Chancellor Candidate Visits

A series of visits is planned with four candidates identified by a search committee seeking the recommended new hire of the vice president and vice chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at UNL. Beginning April 26 the candidates will visit with the search committee, greet the public at individual receptions, and meet with other constituencies associated with the institute.

Here is a schedule of visits, including the public reception times:

  • April 26-28: Cheng-i Wei, public seminar and reception, 3:30-5:30 p.m. April 26
  • May 5-7: Cameron Hackney, public seminar and reception, 3:30-5:30 p.m. May 6
  • May 10-12: Ken Grafton, public seminar and reception, 3:30-5:30 p.m. May 10
  • May 12-14: Ronnie Green, public seminar and reception, 3:30-5:30 p.m. May 13

The public seminars and receptions are all at the Nebraska East Union.
