Public Seminar and Reception Scheduled for Vice Chancellor of IANR Candidate
A series of visits is planned with four candidates identified by a search committee seeking to hire the new vice president and vice chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at UNL. From 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 10, a public seminar and reception will be held for Ken Grafton in the Nebraska East Union.
Grafton is dean of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources and director of the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station at North Dakota State University. Grafton has a bachelor's degree in agriculture from The Ohio State University, a master's in plant breeding and genetics also from Ohio State, and a Ph.D in plant breeding and genetics from University of Missouri.

More Than 2,500 Receive Degrees at May 7-8 UNL Commencements

National Semiconductor Honors UNL Alumnus With Named Fellowship Fund
Brian Halla
National Semiconductor Corp. has honored University of Nebraska-Lincoln alumnus Brian L. Halla with a named student fellowship fund for the College of Engineering. Halla serves as executive chairman of the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company and was chief executive officer for 14 years before retiring from that position in 2009.
National Semiconductor made a $100,000 gift commitment to the University of Nebraska Foundation in support of the Campaign for Nebraska. The gift establishes the Brian L. Halla-National Semiconductor Fellowship Fund and will provide two annual fellowship awards over the next six years to assist graduate students pursuing a master's degree in the department of electrical engineering. The first fellowship will be awarded for the fall semester. more...
Saving World's Grasslands Theme of Spring Issue of Great Plains Research
Great Plains Research, a publication of the Center for Great Plains Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, begins its 20th year of publication with its spring issue devoted to "Saving the World's Grasslands."
The authors presented their papers at an April 2009 workshop in Lincoln on "Grasslands of the World" sponsored by The Grassland Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, Denver Zoological Foundation and several sponsors at UNL, including the Center for Great Plains Studies, Center for Grasslands Studies, School of Natural Resources, and the Nebraska Rural Initiative. more...
