Australian Political Scientist Studies Role of Physical Scientists in Policymaking
Dotted Landscapes - Sandra Starkey

Dr. Linda Botterill, a political scientist from Australia, will speak Thursday, June 24, at 3:30 p.m. at the East Campus Union. Her talk, "The Role of Science in the Evidence-Based Policy Process," is free and open to the public.

Botterill is director of the National Institute for Rural and Regional Australia at the Australian National University and studies the intersection of science and policy in areas as diverse as obesity, food policy and drought. She has been a long-time collaborator with Dr. Donald A. Wilhite, who is director of the School of Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and founding director of the National Drought Mitigation Center. She is in the U.S. for several weeks this summer to conduct research on the impact of science on drought policy in this country. This research is part of a larger project funded by the Australian Research Council, comparing drought policy development in Australia and the U.S.
