UNL Scientists Studying Gut Microbes' Relationship with Hosts
University of Nebraska-Lincoln scientists trying to understand how microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract influence human health are learning more about how the relationships between microbiota and their vertebrate hosts have evolved, with an eye toward how modern lifestyles affect the microbial populations in the human gut.
The research, which is one facet of UNL's Gut Function Initiative, recently was featured in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in an article co-written by gastrointestinal microbiologist Jens Walter. more...
The Resonators Play Fountain Frolics Thursday
The Fountain Frolics summer concert series continues with The Resonators July 15 on the Nebraska Union Plaza. The quintet has their roots in R&B and blues, with a repertoire that focuses on songwriters like Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, Los Lobos, and Bonnie Raitt.
Fountain Frolics concerts are noon to 1 p.m. every Thursday through July 29. UNL's University Program Council sponsors local musical entertainment and sells a picnic lunch of a hot dog, chips and a Pepsi product for $4 under the north overhang of the Nebraska Union.
Repertory Theatre Continues Season with "Mauritius"
The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the professional theatre at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, continue their season with "Mauritius." In this darkly funny, mystery-thriller, two sisters who have inherited a stamp collection are pitted against a trio of shady philatelists who are willing to bully, connive, cheat, and if all else fails even pay to own the stamps. Performances are July 14-15, 24, 29-30 and Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and July 25 at 2 p.m., Howell Theatre.
Tickets are $18 faculty/staff and senior citizens, and $10 students with ID. Season ticket passes are $45 faculty/staff and senior citizens, and $30 students with ID. Tickets are available from the Lied Center Ticket Office and one hour prior to the performance in the Temple Theatres Lobby, or by telephone at 472-4747 or 800-432-3231.
Please Give; The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Please Give and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will show through July 15, while Please Give will screen through July 22.
