OASIS Welcome, Stroll Competition on Friday

The Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services will hold its annual student welcoming event on Aug. 27 on the Nebraska Union Plaza. The event is free and open to all faculty, staff and students.

The OASIS Welcome and Stroll Off includes includes a Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center open house at 4:30 p.m., music on the Union Plaza at 5:30 p.m., and a stroll competition, featuring several multicultural fraternities and sororities, at 6:15 p.m.

 

Bullard, James Win National Journalism Educators Group Awards

University of Nebraska-Lincoln professors Sue Burzynski Bullard and Stacy James earned first place awards from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.

James received the Outstanding Service Award from the Advertising Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, and Bullard earned first place in the promising professors teaching competition for new faculty from the Mass Communication and Society Division and Graduate Education Interest Group. more...

Botanical Collection Enters 100,000th Specimen

The University of Nebraska State Museum's historic collection of plant specimens reached a milestone recently. On July 15, staff of the Bessey Herbarium entered data about the 100,000th plant specimen into its computerized database system.

The specimen is Ribes odoratum, commonly known as a clove currant or buffalo currant. It was collected at Bohemia Prairie Wildlife Management Area in Knox County, Nebraska on May 27, 1990. more...

State Museum's Wildlife and Nature Photo Contest Ends Sept. 1

The deadline to enter the University of Nebraska State Museum's second-annual Wildlife and Nature Photo Contest is Sept. 1. Amateur photographers who are Nebraska residents age 18 or older are invited to submit their striking photos of wildlife and natural settings taken anywhere in the world. All entries will be showcased in Morrill Hall Oct. 1 through Dec. 1 as part of a special exhibit.

Images may show animal behavior, plant life, natural landscapes, portraits of wildlife in a natural habitat and people interacting with nature. Images of pets, domestic animals, or captive animals photographed in zoos or game farms will not qualify for entry. All entries must be original photographs taken by the contestant. more...
