Rosenbaum leads research into energy efficiency programs

David Rosenbaum will lead a team examining the impacts of two state-sponsored energy efficiency programs. Rosenbaum is associate director of the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management, and a professor of economics. Other members of the team include researchers from UNL's Bureau of Business Research, the Bureau of Sociological Research and the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center.

The researchers will examine the weatherization program and the dollar and energy savings loan program, both sponsored by the Nebraska Energy Office. The team will examine various effects of the two programs, including annual and cumulative energy savings, economic impacts and environmental impacts. more...

 

UNLcms Web Development Program Launches
UNLcms

UNL is offering a new program that allows users to build websites without having to know the intricacies of web programming language or specialized design software.

The program, UNLcms, is a content management system that allows users to publish web content - text, pictures and links - through a web browser. UNLcms is a free service, designed to make it easier for campus units and organizations to present and update online content. more...

 

EPSCoR
Proposals Sought for University/Industry Collaborations

Tenure-track or tenured professors who want to forge research and development relationships with private industry have an opportunity to have their work supported through Nebraska EPSCoR's University/Industry R&D Partnership Program. This program offers up to $25,000 in cost-sharing funds for university/industry collaborative science or technology-based research and development projects. A call for proposals has been issued with a deadline of March 1.

The program intends to foster new partnerships and strengthen existing partnerships between faculty of Nebraska colleges and universities and its state industries; it requires the participation of one principal investigator from academia and one from industry. Any tenured or tenure-leading faculty member affiliated with a Nebraska university or college is eligible to participate in the program, as well as any Nebraska business. more...

UCARE Project Aims to Increase Sustainability Practices

University campuses are like small cities, College of Architecture Dean Wayne Drummond said. How they address the comprehensive issue of sustainability can have an effect on the entire community.

So to help make UNL campus more environmentally-friendly, Gabee Cho, an architecture major, is working on her UCARE project with Drummond designed to make UNL more sustainable. Cho and Drummond are looking for the best practices in sustainability to help shape UNL's policies. more...

 

Panel to Discuss Film That Features Challenges of Undocumented Youth

A panel discussion on the film "Papers: Stories of Undocumented Youth" is 5:30 p.m., Feb. 3 in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, room 202. The event is free and open to the public. The discussion is the first of a two-part series on "Papers." The second part of the series is 6 p.m., Feb. 10 screening of the film in the Nebraska Union Auditorium.

"Papers" presents the story of undocumented youth and the challenges they face when turning 18 without legal citizenship status. There are approximately 2 million undocumented children who were born outside but raised in the United States. These young people were educated in American schools, hold American values, call the United States home, and who - by simply turning 18 - become illegal immigrants. more...

 

Morrill Hall Offers Free Thursday Nights
Morrill Hall

The University of Nebraska State Museum is offering free admission to Morrill Hall on Thursday nights in February. The museum, which is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, will be open free of charge, 4:30 to 8 p.m., Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24.

After February, Morrill Hall will continue to be open until 8 p.m. Thursdays. Regular admission will be charged starting March 3. The museum is open 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays. Mueller Planetarium, located inside the museum, will present the fulldome show "Black Holes" Thursdays at 7 p.m. in February. Regular admission to Mueller Planetarium fulldome shows will apply and tickets to planetarium shows can be purchased at the front desk of the museum.
