Timothy Wei

Timothy Wei, one of five finalists for dean of the College of Engineering, will give a public presentation at 3:30 p.m., March 3 in Walter Scott Engineering Center, room 237.

Wei has been professor and head of the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., since 2006, and was interim dean from June 2008 to August 2009. His research interests are in coupling fundamental fluid dynamics experiments with critical technologies of socio-technological importance. He earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell, his master's from Lehigh, both in mechanical engineering; and his Ph.D in aerospace engineering from Michigan. He previously was on faculty at Rutgers, and has held numerous visiting faculty appointments. more...

Theater student finalist on 'The Glee Project'

It seemed like a one-in-a-million chance to appear on Fox's hit show "Glee" through open auditions in Chicago for "The Glee Project." Instead after one long and wild day, UNL junior Nikki Kelly finished as a Chicago finalist, finished in the top 10 percent of the live auditions in both Chicago and Dallas, and her voice and photo are appearing in commercials for the reality TV show, which begins airing this summer.

"The Glee Project" is a new reality show on the Oxygen network that premieres this June where performers compete for a multi-episode guest-starring role on season three of the hit series "Glee" on Fox. Open auditions were held in Chicago and Dallas in December and January. more...

Futurama NEBRASKA UNION AUDITORIUM, 6PM
Law College Hosts "Futurama" Producer

On March 3, 6 p.m. at the Union, the Nebraska College of Law will be sponsoring a discussion with Patric Verrone about the future of film, television, music and journalism in a world of Facebook, Netflix and Youtube. Mr. Verrone's discussant will be UNL law professor Marvin Ammori. The event is free and open to the public.

Mr. Verrone is a writer and executive producer of the highly acclaimed animated series "Futurama," which has won three Emmy Awards and recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010 as the "Current Most Critically-Acclaimed Animated Series." more...

University Theatre Offers Modern Twist on 'Iphigenia'

University Theatre opens its spring season with "Iphigenia 2.0," a play based on Euripides' "Iphigenia in Aulis." Show times are 7:30 p.m., March 2-5 in the Temple Building's Howell Theatre. University Theatre is the academic production program in UNL's Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film.

By playwright Charles L. Mee, "Iphigenia 2.0" is set in modern times. Iphigenia is a beautiful heiress from the House of Atreus and is about to be married. However, she must deal with an overbearing mother, Clytemnestra, and a father, Agamemnon, who plans to kill her. more...
