Cho wins $400,000 award to build safer job sites using 3D technology

Yong Cho recently received a $400,000, five-year Faculty Early Career Development Program CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation for outstanding pre-tenure faculty.

Cho, an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction, is developing a method to build real-time virtual 3D models of work sites. These laser-guided, computer-generated environments will help automated construction equipment perform complicated tasks. more…

Samantha Rendon wins Rosenshine internship with BBDO

Samantha Rendon

Samantha Rendon, a senior advertising and public relations major in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications, has been awarded the Allen Rosenshine Minority Educational and Training Fund internship.

BBDO, a leading advertising agency with U.S. offices in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis and San Francisco, will fund six internships for the summer of 2011. Rendon will receive a $4,000 stipend for a 10-week internship in account services in New York City. more…

"Symphonic Fantasies"

The UNL Symphony Orchestra presents a concert, "Symphonic Fantasies," at 7:30 p.m., today in Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students/senior citizens.

The concert will feature Berlioz's "Symphonie Fantastique" and Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis."

Tyler White, professor of music, is director of the UNL Symphony Orchestra.

The Horticulture Club presents the 2011 Garden Expo this week. Learn about what Horticulture Club does, its purpose, upcoming events, sales and officer team. The club will host the expo from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., April 28 and from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., April 29 in the greenhouse behind Plant Science Hall on East Campus.

The Nebby's Film Festival

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film presents The Nebby's! The Nebby's Film Festival is the yearly showcase of short films that were produced by students in the Carson School's Film & New Media program. The Thesis Films that were screened the night before at Cinema 16's Golden Can Film Festival will screen along side of student short films that will be screening for the first time.

The festival is open to the public and admission is free.

Information Services invites you to the 'Educause Mobile Computing 5-Day Sprint,' a free, weeklong experience allows you to participate in activities and discussions on the many ways mobile technologies are altering higher education. Interested UNL students, faculty and staff are invited to 107 Architecture Hall over the noon hour this week to participate in this national forum, provided by Educause, the nonprofit association for higher education technology.
