Master plan open house sessions are Sept. 12, 13
Two open house sessions are planned to allow faculty, staff and students to offer input into an update of UNL's master physical plan and a new landscape master plan. Jennifer Dam, assistant director of campus planning and space management, said the open houses are the first opportunity for the entire campus community to provide input into the master plans.
The workshops are 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Nebraska Union and noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 13 in the East Union. The sessions are open to all interested. "Faculty, staff and students should be excited about these open house sessions because it is their chance to help guide our growth in the future," said Dam. Quilt expert, author Silber to speak at Quilt Museum
Julie Silber, one of the world's most respected quilt experts, will be at the Quilt Museum tonight to give an entertaining slide talk at 5:30 p.m., "Mark My Words."
Silber has been selling antique quilts to museums, businesses, and individuals since 1968. She was the curator of the Esprit Quilt Collection in San Francisco and is the co-author of the critically acclaimed books, "Hearts and Hands: Women, Quilts and American Society," and "Amish Quilts of Lancaster County," published in conjunction with the exhibition at the Fine Arts Museum, San Francisco. GamePlan Architecture exhibition opens Friday
In this exhibition, visitors will get an up-to-date look at the new Pinnacle Bank Arena and Memorial Stadium's East Stadium expansion before the venues are open to the public. The exhibit details the arena and stadium designs from the beginning stages of construction and planning through final drawings. Exhibition highlights include interior details, materials facts and figures, architectural drawings, three-dimensional models and digital media images. Read more about this exhibition in Today@UNL.
UNL Student Observatory public night is Friday
UNL Student Observatory will have a public night 9:30 to 11:30 p.m., Sept. 7 at the observatory located on top of the Stadium Drive Parking Garage, 10th and T streets. The event is free and open to the public.
The Student Observatory is located on City Campus and open to the public every first Friday of the month for observing through the 16-inch dome telescope.
KIMBALL RECITAL HALL, SUN 3PM
Barnes, Chiara quartet concert is Sunday
Faculty artists Paul Barnes, Hixson-Lied Professor of Piano; and the Chiara String Quartet are in concert on Sept. 9 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The repertoire will feature three works, commissioned by Barnes and the world premiere performances of the past three years.
Barnes and the Chiara String Quartet will perform Ivan Moody's "Nocturne of Light," a piano quintet based on Greek Orthodox resurrection hymns. This work made its world premiere on April 26, 2010 at Cutting Edge Concerts, Symphony Space, New York, NY. William Shomos, Hixson-Lied Professor of Voice and Opera, and Barnes' son, Peter Barnes, will join Barnes in singing the two hymns prior to the performance. Hyde Lecture features Erleen Hatfield of Buro Happold
Erleen Hatfield will give the first lecture of the College of Architecture's Hyde Lecture Series, 4:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.
Hatfield, PE, AIA, LEED AP is a partner of Buro Happold, a global multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm and is based in New York. Hatfield will lecture on recent projects including the Lincoln Arena in the Haymarket. Read more about this lecture in Today@UNL.

Fiesta on the Green is Friday
Fiesta on the Green, a Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration featuring music, dancing, and traditional cuisine to honor the contribution of cultures associated with Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America. Fiesta is 5-8 p.m. Sept. 7 on the Nebraska Union Plaza.

UNL launches Nebraska App
UNL has launched the Nebraska App, a suite of mobile applications that makes essential university resources available on mobile devices. Students can check grades, access course content and browse the course catalog. They can access the public directory and get in touch instantly, keep tabs on Husker sports, find places on the campus map, stay informed with the latest campus news, watch videos, and even listen to podcasts of popular lectures in iTunesU.
