Are you 10–14 years old? Are you curious? Do you like having fun with hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities? Do you want to learn what science is? Participate in the new 4-H STEM Program led by Dr. Christian Stephenson, a University of Nebraska–Lincoln professor, and Elizabeth Thiltges, Lancaster County 4-H assistant. The 4-H STEM Program will meet five times on specific Thursdays: March 23, April 13, May 18, June 29 and July 20. Meeting time will be 6–7:30 p.m. at the Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County conference rooms, 444 Cherrycreek Rd. Suite A, Lincoln. You must commit to these dates and times.
The program is built around hands-on and project-based learning, whereby scientific exploration and innovation are used to familiarize youth with scientific methods. There will also be demonstrations showing chemical reactions, basic physics, etc. The goal is for youth, as a group, to form a hypothesis and then test it. Cost is $10 to attend all meetings. Spots are limited. Register by Thursday, March 16 with name, age and grade of youth, and emergency contact, email and phone number.
