Football, pumpkin spice and flu shots. Fall is here, which means it’s time to get your annual influenza vaccine.

Flu shots are now available at the University Health Center for students, faculty and staff.

Here’s what you need to know about getting your flu shot:

HOW TO GET VACCINATED: Employees must make a medical clinic appointment to get vaccinated. Call 402.472.5000 to schedule. Drop-in flu vaccine clinics are for students only

WHAT TO BRING: Please bring your NCard

COST: Flu shots have a fee for UNL employees. This charge can be submitted to private insurance or paid out-of-pocket. Most insurance plans cover flu shots at 100%. Please contact the billing and insurance office with any questions at 402.472.7435 or 1.866.662.8662

VACCINE TYPE: This year, the health center will offer FLUARIX quadrivalent flu shots to protect against four different flu viruses. The high-dose (65+) flu vaccine is not available at the health center

The health center encourages everyone to get vaccinated against influenza this year to protect themselves and the Husker community. Since COVID-19 and influenza have similar symptoms, it’s especially important to take this step to help prevent respiratory illness on campus.

If you interact with students, please remind them to get vaccinated. Flu shots are free for students, and all students vaccinated at the health center will receive a coupon for a free chocolate brownie that can be redeemed at the new Tazza Coffee Express inside the health center. Students may choose to make an appointment at the health center or attend a drop-in flu shot clinic for students. More information is available on the health center website.
