On November 5th, 2015, the Multicultural Awareness Diversity Education (MADE) Committee of University Housing is hosting #Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Social activist, Alicia Garza, turned to social media to express anguish over the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the 2013 trial over the death of Trayvon Martin. Garza along with Opal Tometi and Patrisse Cullors ended their messages on social media with #BlackLivesMatter prompting activism nationwide. Since, #BlackLivesMatter has evolved into the banner under which this generations civil rights movement marches. Our hope is that Garza inspires and empowers students and staff to fight the social injustice that currently plagues our society.
The event will be November 5th, 2015 in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room at 7:00pm. This is a ticketed event and tickets to the greater campus community will be on Eventbrite beginning Wednesday, October 25 in the late afternoon.
