The School of Art, Art History & Design's graphic design department continues to win awards. Students are creating work that is being recognized across the country.

Last spring, recent graduate Jake Headid was recognized as the first winner of the Franco Fund Scholarship. Headid was chosen based off of his outstanding integrity, demonstrating positive characteristics and philanthropic work.

In the Fall of 2017, the Nebraska chapter of AIGA (the American Institutes of Graphic Arts) offered two Designing Opportunity Scholarships to graphic design students statewide. Out of all of the design students in the state, Emily Gauger and Carlos Velasco were awarded the scholarships.

Also in the Fall of 2017, AIGA Nebraska hosted SHOW, a design competition for both design professionals and students in Nebraska. Six of our students took home awards from the competition.

Recent graduate Samantha Evans won a silver for her project “Season of the Witch,” as well as a bronze for “Anthology.” Also a recent graduate, Jordan Geisert won a bronze for her piece “Typed.” Senior Emily Gauger was awarded two bronzes for her pieces “S’well Advertising Campaign” and “Earthlife.” Cameron Scheele was awarded a bronze for her poster “Money is Not Water,” and recent graduate Megan Rook took home a bronze for her project “Expiration Date T-Shirt.” Senior Carlos Velasco was awarded two bronzes for his pieces “Earthstock” and “Collective Culture,” a gold for “Encompass,” as well as a Judges' Choice Award.

Earlier this year, the American Advertising Federation (AAF) selected Velasco as one of AAF’s Most Promising Multicultural Students. This allowed him to travel to New York for a program to meet and network with others in the industry.

AAF also hosted the Addy’s, an annual design and advertising competition. Faraz Mohd was awarded two Silver Addy’s, Emily Gauger won a Silver and Logan McIntyre was the winner of a Gold.
