University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music DMA student Michelle Yin Zhang was recently selected as one of the winners in the International Maestro Piano and Strings Competition.

Zhang submitted her recording of Ravel’s Ondine and will perform that great work on July 20 in Carnegie Hall. There were two other winners in her category, one from Maryland and the other from New York.

“Michelle has been an absolute star here at the Glenn Korff School of Music!,” said Paul Barnes, Marguerite Scribante Professor of Music. “Whether playing the pianos most demanding repertoire or collaborating with our best instrumentalists, Michelle has proven herself to be a complete artist. As a result of her tremendous accomplishment she will be serving as my studio assistant, a high privilege reserved only for my best students.”

Zhang said, “I see this opportunity as a valuable learning and performing experience. I am very much looking forward to listen and see other performers’ stages and their musical insights. As a third-year DMA student, I am hoping this trip could give me some inspirations on my professional career after graduating.”
