PhD student, Ashley Stengel, was recently selected to receive a Widaman Distinguished Graduate Assistantship in recognition of outstanding performance as a graduate student for her research on Exploring Ecosystem Resiliency: soil bacterial communities at a long-term maize field site.

The Widaman Trust was established in 1975 through a generous gift provided to the University of Nebraska Foundation by Ms. Blanch Widaman. Ms. Widaman asked that the income from the trust be used by UNL for basic research in agriculture and that the funds support people rather than purchase supplies and/or equipment. She suggested that the money be used for fellowships for graduate students conducting basic research in agriculture. A luncheon to honor all those receiving Graduate Fellowships is held in the fall.
