Metagenomics Mondays Fall Seminar Series

Metagenomics Mondays
Metagenomics Mondays

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in conjunction with the National Science Foundation, hosts fall webinars September 10 through October 29, 2018.

Microbial communities have a strong impact on all aspects of life on earth, including agriculture, human and animal health, and in all ecosystems. At UNL and beyond, challenges and opportunities in microbiome research are being addressed using novel approaches from diverse disciplines.

Speakers from veterinary sciences, plant sciences, microbiology, statistics, data science, engineering and more include:
Jacques Izard, Food Science, NFHC... The stability of the human microbiome
Camilo Valdes, Computer Science, (Grad Student) FIU...High Throughput Metagenomic Profiling with Elastic MapReduce
Ashley Stengel, Plant Path and AGH (Grad Student) ... Exploring Ecosystem Resiliency: soil bacterial
communities at a long-term maize field site
Rohita Sinha, Viracor-Eurofins ... Functional profiling of metagenomic short reads: How complex are complex microbial communities?
Jianghao Zhao, Animal Science, University of Arkansas... Early-life modulation of the swine gut microbiome improves post-weaning growth performance
Hernando Garcia-Ruiz, SBS and NCV...Metagenomic analysis of maize viruses and genome-wide variation in potyviruses
Peng Wang, Agronomy and Horticulture, Center for Plant Science Innovation... Understanding of the identity threshold to generate the OTUs for 16 S rRNA sequencing – a case study using a mock community
