Boeckner retires from distinguished nutrition career

Friends and colleagues are invited to a reception celebrating the retirement of Linda Boeckner, professor and human sciences program leader in the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences (NHS) and Nebraska Extension. The reception is scheduled for 4 p.m., August 27 in the East Campus Union, Arbor Suites.

Boeckner served for a year as the interim department chair in NHS beginning July 1, 2017 and has been a faculty member in the department and extension since 1987. She was district director of the Panhandle Research and Extension Center from 2008-2013 and also served as an extension specialist for many years. She began her nutrition career as a staff nutritionist at the Catawba County Health Department, North Carolina, in 1977.

A registered dietician, Boeckner earned bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees in nutrition from Nebraska and a master’s in nutrition from Case Western Reserve University. She has been recognized with numerous awards and honors over her distinguished career, including being inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement, the Omtvedt Innovation Award from the Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Outstanding Extension Specialist, and Impact 2000 Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
