Graduate Student Symposium participation deadline extended to Friday

The College of Engineering Graduate Student Advisory Board (GeSAB) is seeking more presenters for the upcoming Graduate Student Symposium, which will be held Friday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. during Engineers’ Week (E-Week) 2022.

This is a great opportunity for graduate students to showcase their research, learn about research in other engineering disciplines, and to network with colleagues.

There are many ways for engineering students to participate in the symposium, including presenting as a keynote or session speaker, competing in the 3in5 Pitch Competition or Multimedia/Poster Session, attending the networking luncheon, or as an attendee. Registration to attend the Symposium is free and will open Monday, Jan. 10.

Please encourage graduate advisees to participate by either presenting or attending. GeSAB has put the call out for presenters. Presenter submissions should include a short objective and summary of the research. Below are the various ways students can participate. The extended deadline for submissions is Friday, Dec. 17 at 11:59 pm: https://go.unl.edu/gradsymposium22

  • Keynote: A 25-minute talk which encompasses a holistic view of an engineering topic and aligns with the E-Week 2020 theme, Forging the Future. Preference will be given to graduate students at the end of their program and who exhibit interdisciplinary work.
  • Session Talk: A 15-minute talk to occur within a series of presentations that share a commonality. The sessions are open to showcase research at all stages. Examples include: research ideas, review of a topic, proposals, and research results.
  • Pitch Competition: Participants will have three slides to promote their idea to a panel of judges in five minutes with no question and answer period. Judges will represent multiple disciplines. Grand Prize is $500.
  • Design Competition: Gather an interdisciplinary team and submit a creative solution to an engineering challenge, such as the Engineering Grand Challenges. Teams should be 2-4 participants with a minimum of two different programs/majors and a mix of undergraduate and graduate student teams are encouraged. Judges will represent multiple disciplines. Grand Prize is $500.
  • Multimedia Session: Expanding the traditional poster session format, participants will have the opportunity to present their research through various means. Students can present a traditional research poster or can feel free to innovate. Space will be limited to 5 feet by 5 feet. Judges will represent multiple disciplines. Grand Prize is $500.
