Liming Xiong, associate professor of aerospace engineering at Iowa State, will be the featured speaker at the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Pierson Graduate Seminar at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Jorgensen Hall 110.
His seminar is titled "Toward Predicting the Slip-Interface Reaction and Subsequent Microstructure Evolution in Plastically Deformed Heterogeneous Alloys from Atomistic to the Macroscale."
Xiong's research focuses on the development of a multi scale modeling method and its applications in designing advanced materials for aerospace, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, and civil engineering applications. The method that he developed has attracted attention and collaborations from both academia and industries nationwide. He authored/co-authored 68 peer-reviewed papers in a variety of different areas. In addition to one NASA project, he is currently leading four active NSF projects and serving as a guest editor of two high-ranked journals.
