MECH 450/850: Control Systems Design
This is the first course in classical feedback control theory.
Topics:
• Control systems oriented dynamical modeling of electro-mechanical, biological and chemical systems
• Laplace transforms
• Root-locus analysis and control design
• Nyquist criterion, including stability, phase and gain margin analysis.
• Lead, lag, lead-lag and PID control design
The above concepts will be illustrated with numerous examples from modern robotics, astrodynamics, flight dynamics, vehicle dynamics and biology. A comprehensive group lab project will involve mechanical design, assembly, control system design and implementation. 2 lectures + 1 lab per week, 3 credits.
