Educational Talent Search Program is searching for an ETS Robotics proctor. The position will be working with middle and high school students for a hybrid robotics course using a Sphero Bolt robot and block coding and possibly the Sphero RVR robot. The staff would be proctoring the course curriculum with another ETS staff member twice per week during the after school time frame and every other Saturday morning in-person (location TBD). In addition, if interested, the person would be working to create activities to be done for a high school robotics course using a more advanced robot.
The middle school scholars program uses a curriculum provided by Nucleus Robotics to learn about coding. The scholars learn programming using block coding with a Sphero Bolt robot. Concepts that students learn includes movement, LED matrix, pseudocode, feedback loop, event blocks, booleans, luminosity sensor, variables, and much more. This program is a mixture of engaging videos, games to play with scholars, and activities where scholars work together.
The high school scholars use Sphero RVR robots to learn coding. There is an opportunity to create a new program for the high school scholars to learn with these robots using block coding or JavaScript. The Sphero RVR robots have many features to explore, including light and color sensors. These robots are new to ETS and we look forward to unlocking more information about them with robotics staff.
Training will be provided and knowledge of coding is not required-just an interest to learn! Pay starts at $10.00 per hour. The successful candidate must have the desire to work with middle and high school students from low-income and first generation backgrounds, and possess good interpersonal skills. Education and engineering majors are encouraged to apply! Position will be offered pending a background check. Start date would be as soon as possible with working hours roughly 5-8 hours per week.
