The CSE faculty and staff

Now that the Fall 2016 semester is underway, we’d like to make a few introductions. Meet the new members of our faculty and staff who just joined CSE this year:

ThanhVu Nguyen — Assistant Professor

ThanhVu (Vu) Nguyen joined CSE in August after graduating from the University of New Mexico in 2014 and spending two years as a postdoc at the University of Maryland. For his first semester in the department, he is teaching CSCE990 Software Verification.  His research interests lie in the intersection of software engineering and programming languages.

Hamid Bagheri — Assistant Professor

Hamid joined CSE as an Assistant Professor in August after graduating from the University of Virginia in 2013 and spending three years of postdoc at various institutions, including University of California, Irvine, and MIT. His research interests are at the intersection of software engineering and formal methods, with a focus on advancing software reliability by developing new methods relying on concepts from fields like lightweight formal methods, software synthesis, model-driven development, software testing, and software architecture. He has been prolific in his early career, developing several novel techniques, including new methods and tools for compositional analysis of Android inter-app vulnerabilities, synthesis of application-specific frameworks, and synthesis of tradeoff spaces for object-relational databases. This fall, he is teaching CSCE 990 seminar course on mobile software analysis.

Brady Garvin — Lecturer

Brady joined CSE as a professor of practice in the new software engineering program this August, having previously taught at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Along with Dr. Suzette Person, he is responsible for developing and teaching courses in the software engineering core, including two sections of SOFT 160 this semester.

Christy Thomas — Project Manager

Christy joined CSE in May after moving to Lincoln from Omaha, where she worked at UNO on the Administrative Information Services team.  She'll be providing project management for Design Studio and working with students and faculty from the Computer Science and Engineering department and the Raikes School.

Victoria Grdina — Outreach and Communications Associate

Tori joined CSE in August after graduating from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications in 2012 and spending three years at Hurrdat, a Lincoln-based digital marketing agency. She’ll be managing CSE’s social media and website, serving as an embedded news reporter within the college, updating the department events calendar, and putting together the Bits & Bytes newsletter every week.

Ann Koopmann — Advisor

Ann just joined CSE yesterday! Her primary responsibility will be full-time academic advising for the college. Though she’ll be serving all students, she’ll be focusing on those majoring in computer science. Additionally, she will help facilitate the CSCE 10 course. Before CSE, Ann worked in the University Honors Program as an advisor, where she oversaw student programs such as peer mentoring and student advisory board activities. She was with the Honors Program for almost 10 years, and she has been with UNL for 20 years through other roles in Admissions and the College of Engineering.

We wish all our new members a great first semester with us!
