Apply to Advanced Computational Research Experiences

iCER ACRES
iCER ACRES

Applications are now being accepted for the iCER ACERS program. iCER ACRES is a 10-week summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in computational and data science. This REU is coordinated by Michigan State University’s Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE), in partnership with the Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (iCER).

Research projects provided though iCER ACRES focus on the development and enhancement of algorithms, models, and software for applications in multiple research areas that require high-performance computing resources. Research areas include: computational chemistry, biology, astrophysics, mathematics, big data science, and computational electromagnetics.

Undergraduate students interested in pursuing computational or data science research, including women and minority students, are invited to apply. Student projects cover a range of scientific domains including in but not limited to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

To be eligible to apply for this program, all applicants must:
- Be U.S. citizens or hold permanent residency status
- Have completed at least two semesters of calculus and programming by May 2018
- Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA is at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
- Not be enrolled in classes during Summer 2018
- Be available to work full-time on the campus of MSU from May 21-July 27, 2018
- Be an undergraduate in Fall 2018 (i.e., not graduating before December 2018)

The program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) with funding from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) ASSURE program. The REU site directors are Professors Kenneth M. Merz, Jr. and Brian W. O’Shea.
