December has arrived and the Department of Computer Science would like to take this opportunity to prepare students for their upcoming exams. Exams, although marking the end of the semester and the approaching holidays, bring a great deal of stress and uncertainty. In order to help our students succeed, we have compiled a list of events and resources available around campus, along with some general exam advice. We hope that you will take advantage of these and wish you the best of luck on your exams.

Preparation:

Stay rested and eat well before the exam. Come early to ensure you find parking and have enough time to make it to your exam hall. Give yourself a timed practice exam before the actual exam. Bring blue books, pens, a calculator, and a watch to the exam. Remember to look at the allocation of points and adjust time spent on each question accordingly. Finally, check your work! For further advice on exam preparation from the office of undergraduate studies, please visit http://go.unl.edu/nnb and http://go.unl.edu/mbp.

Health & Well-Being:

Anxiety is often a major factor in exam preparation and should be avoided both for the student’s well-being and in the interest of achieving good grades on the finals. The UHC offers help with anxiety through its Counseling and Psychological Services. If you feel overwhelmed, set up an appointment by calling 402-472-1152 or visit their website, http://go.unl.edu/knk. Remember, sleeping and eating well are both very important factors in exam success.

It is important to remember to take the time out for exercise. Not only will this help control stress, but it will also provide a much needed study break. The Rec Center provides a great place to workout and to be around other students. Hours of operation will continue as normal until December 16th.

Places to Study:

Career Services is offering private rooms for studying. Room 225 in the Nebraska Union is available from 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. throughout dead week and finals week on a first-come, first-serve basis.

ASUN will also provide students with a 24-hour study lounge in the Gaughan Center from December 4th through the 8th and from December 11th through the 15th. This will provide students with a quite place to study with the company of others in the same situation.

University Sponsored Activities:

UHC, Campus Rec, UNL Student Management Center, and Lincoln Pet Partners are offering a stress-free zone on December 8th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will be held at Union Square in front of the Nebraska Union. There will be free food, giveaways, and various activities.

Need Something to Do Besides Studying?

The Cornhusker Marching Band will perform Friday, December 9th at 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center. Tickets are $15 and available at the Lied Center Box Office.

CSE wishes you the best of luck in your exams!
