Students in the UNL Computer Science and Computer Engineering Senior Design classes will present the products of their year-long research and development from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on December 14, 2011, in Avery Room 347. The presentations are free and open to the public.
The Senior Design classes are a part of the Computer Science and Engineering Department’s Innovation Laboratory. The CSE Innovation Lab allows students to gain experience by working on a professional hardware/software development project. Students work to create a product or program that solves a problem faced by future employers. They design and develop their projects in teams to build organization and communication skills necessary in a collaborative environment. The teams work closely with faculty members so that the end result meets professional standards. The CSE Innovation Lab also welcomes participation from the private sector and government partners, as it is a great way for companies to recruit and evaluate the work of potential employees or interns.
The four projects that were created in the Senior Design classes are:
* MyTA, educational software with multi-sided Flipcards for individual review or class quizzes using desktop computers or mobile devices.
* Pantomime, a smart glove system that uses multiple sensors to recognize gestures for games, interactive controls, or communication.
* Publications, easy-to-use online software for creating, storing, and sharing print publications.
* SmartBell, a doorway monitoring system that uses a camera and facial recognition software to send notifications of visitors to mobile devices.
