The Department of Computer Science and Engineering will host its annual Senior Design Showcase on Wednesday, April 24. Members of local industry and Lincoln community are invited to attend the event and view the projects students have been working on throughout the 2018-19 school year.

The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union auditorium. Firespring CTO Jason Wilkinson will open the event with a keynote speech, which will be followed by a program featuring the teams that earned platinum and gold project awards. The event will conclude with a reception and project showcase, in which all 20 teams will display and give in-depth demonstrations of their projects.

“Our creative, driven computer scientists, computer engineers, and software engineers have worked extremely hard to create this final showcase,” said Director of Senior Design Christy Thomas. “We are very excited to share it with everyone.”

The Senior Design program is a two-semester capstone sequence that all Computer Science and Engineering students complete before graduation. Students enrolled in the course spend the year working in teams of five or six on a computer software or hardware project sponsored by members of local industry or university faculty and staff.

The course is intended to provide students with the hands-on educational and professional experience that comes with contributing to a real-world project. Previous projects have served a variety of fields and industries and have been developed with many different technologies. Just a few of the project types have included mobile apps, web-based tools, gaming technologies, augmented reality, and machine learning systems.

Those interested in attending can get more details about the event and RSVP here. Responses are appreciated by Wednesday, April 17.

Industry members and university faculty are also invited to submit project proposals for next year’s course until June 28, 2019. To learn more about the program and its opportunities, visit the Senior Design website or contact cse-seniordesign@unl.edu.
