Workshop Opportunities

The Office of Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Scholar Career and Professional Development is sponsoring three workshops in the next week: "Creating an Individual Development Plan (IDP)," "Career Advice for the Strategic Scientist," and "Negotiation."

Here is a quick look at each workshop:

"Creating an Individual Development Plan (IDP)"
Wednesday, April 3, 3-5 p.m.
Burnett Hall: Room 107

An Individual Development Plan helps you outline your goals and objectives and identify the best ways to develop skills to meet those goals. This workshop with focus on what an IDP looks like, programs for helping you develop them, and how to have
conversations with faculty and advisors about your IDP.

"Career Advice for the Strategic Scientist"
Friday, April 5, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Nebraska Union: Colonial Suite

With more Ph.D. graduates in the U.S. than jobs available in academia, many graduate students and postdoctoral associates will need to consider alternative careers. Faculty can encourage students to identify, develop, and articulate the transferability of key skills throughout their academic study and find their place in today’s job market.

Founder and CEO of Cheeky Scientist, Dr. Isaiah
Hankel, will be the keynote speaker for this workshop.

"Negotiation"
Tuesday, April 9, 3-4p.m.
Nebraska East Union: Cottonwood Room

Negotiation is an important skill in navigating your future career. This workshop will provide information on effective negotiation techniques and will examine how your own strengths can be incorporated into a negotiation strategy that works for you.
