ICMEE is happy to announce the release of new curriculum packets for multilingual students.
During the early days of the COVID-19 Pandemic, our team of researchers, teacher educators, and teachers responded rapidly by creating new resources for teachers. We initially created 21 immediate-response packets for K-5 in order to provide a technology-free learning alternative for multilingual students at various levels of English proficiency. We then applied for and received a grant that has enabled us to create an additional 100 full activity packets, ranging from Levels 1-3 of English proficiency, and grades K-12. There are even packets for secondary students with limited or interrupted schooling. In all, there are over 10,000 pages of learning activities.

The main goal of our learning enhancement packets is to be a quality learning resource for students who do not have access to technology on a regular basis while they are learning from home, but the packets can also be incorporated into remote learning and hybrid learning as needed. These packets are free, valuable resources for multilingual students.

The team who designed and created the second edition of packets included teachers from across the country, with various areas of expertise and many different interests. Each grade level showcases one teachers’ personality, interests, and teaching style, as we aim to capture teachers’ unique expertise in each set of activities. The packets are also designed with productive play, higher order critical thinking in mind, and are therefore not the average worksheets. These packets highlight our commitment to connecting with multilingual students’ previous knowledge and rich life experiences, regardless of their preferred language. These packets aim to support student learning as they develop English, but also encourage their language use and development in their home or other language(s).
