ICMEE Racial Justice Book Clubs

ICMEE Book Club
ICMEE Book Club

During the summer, ICMEE held three online racial justice book clubs that created the context for interdisciplinary collaborations and discussion for educators across the country, grade levels, and career trajectories. In June, the book club for “The Racial Healing Handbook” started. In July, the book club for “How to be an Antiracist” started and in August, the book club for “We Want to do More than Survive: Abolitionist Teaching and the Pursuit of Racial Justice.” Hundreds of teachers participated in these book clubs and continue to have access to the resources shared through the online book club structure.

Due to the incredibly demanding and stressful nature of this particular school year where teachers are taking on the incredible task of teaching America’s children through a global pandemic, we have chosen not to offer book clubs during the academic year. However, ICMEE will highlight and recommend great texts for continued progress towards racial justice monthly. Our hope is to re-launch or offer new racial justice book clubs during the summer of 2021. In the meantime, if any group is interested in using the book clubs we have designed, they are available for use similarly to our eWorkshops.
