Communications Assistant - REACH Lab at UNL (Lincoln, NE)

The Research, Evaluation, and Analysis for Community Health (REACH) Lab is a research group at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Our research is based on combining a scientific approach with the desires and understandings of our community partners to solve problems that affect communities. Our projects typically fall into one or more ‘focus areas’ such as community health, substance use, and homelessness. Over the last two decades, our work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Native American Research Centers for Health, the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institute of Justice, and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

We are looking for a part-time (up to 20 hours each week) Undergraduate Communications Assistant to help create digital and print communications, with the opportunity to engage in work that aligns with their interests (social media campaigning, video/photography, website maintenance, copy/publication writing).

Responsibilities:
> Cultivate and create social media content for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
> Prepare, maintain, and update website materials
> Write and contribute to publications
> Help inform the design and strategy of the REACH Lab’s online presence
> Organize materials for research projects, and aid in event set up/tear down
> Manage and respond to project-related e-mails
> Attend project meetings, area seminars, and other meetings as necessary
> Provide creative and accessible communications coverage of events
> Collaborate with UNL faculty and staff to locate topics of interest for communications campaigns
> Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:
> Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at UNL
> Ability to maintain excellent academic standing
> Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong attention to detail
> A solid understanding of social media tools and platforms
> Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, and be computer literate
> Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet project deadlines
> Strong organizational skills
> Positive attitude and team player

Preferred Skills:
> Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.)
> Possess a basic knowledge of, or experience with, web applications and programming languages (HTML, CSS, jQuery, JavaScript)
> Self-starter with the ability to work independently
> Excellent critical thinking/problem solving skills
> Enjoys working on a diverse team
