Communications and Office Assistant - UNL International Student and Scholar Office (Lincoln, NE)

The Communications and Office Assistant will provide support and assist the International Student and Scholar Office (ISSO) with marketing and communication efforts, as well as front desk and office services.

Communication responsibilities:
> Creative writing for social media, blog, and newsletter content
> Some videography and photography
> Coordinating social media campaigns and projects under the direction of Graduate Assistants and International Student Success Navigators
> Assisting with promotion of ISSO events, including digital design production like digital signage, social media graphics, and more
> Coverage of ISSO events, including videography, photography, and social media posts
> Updating of shared social media calendar for office
> Managing all event photos for ISSO

Office responsibilities:
> Covering the front desk during lunch hours 12-1 PM, ISSO meetings on Thursdays 9 AM – 11 AM, and on staff sick days
> Checking in students, scholars, and non-students who visit ISSO to see a specialist
> Answering phone calls directed to ISSO and assisting callers with their needs
> Keeping track of various student documents (I-20, OPT, H1-B, etc.)
> Being a resource person about the department and the university
> Communicating with students, scholars and university staff in a professional and courteous manner
> Filing and other similar administrative tasks, data entry

Job requirements:
> Must be current student enrolled full-time
> Must be in good academic standing and have a GPA of at least 2.5
> Must be at least a Sophomore by Fall 2020

> Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information appropriately
> Exceptional customer service skills
> Knowledge of the university environment and resources
> Attention to detail and strong editing abilities

> Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects
> Ability to learn new skills and technology quickly
> Basic knowledge of video editing, photography, and videography

Work schedule:
Our ideal candidates would be available over the lunch period (anywhere from 11:30-1:30 PM, not necessarily that entire time) and available on Thursday mornings between 9AM-11AM. Since we are hiring multiple people for this position, no candidate must have all those times available, but must have some of them available. Additional hours will also be completed in-office.

This position would work closely with ISSO specialists, Student Success Navigators, Graduate Assistants, and Global Peer Assistants to provide consistent support and communication through social media channels and as a welcoming face at the front desk.
