Brain Injury Association of Nebraska PR/Event Planning Intern (Unpaid)

The Brain Injury Association of Nebraska (BIA-NE) is seeking an unpaid public relations/event planning intern to provide support for several upcoming events and a statewide conference. This position will provide hands-on experience in various facets of event planning and implementation. The intern we seek has the ability to undertake basic media/public relations planning and writing assignments and possesses an understanding of media relations skills.

Because there is no central BIA-NE office, the perfect candidate must be a proven self-starter with the ability to work on his or her own with direction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Intern will receive training and experience in the following:
o Assists with the logistical coordination of the Nebraska Brain Injury Conference, a two-day event in Kearney
o Organizing and preparing event-related documents, managing registration lists
o Provides administrative and clerical support such as maintains/updates and generates reports and communications from the online registration database
o Entering and tracking sponsor information, writing thank you letters
o Basic writing assignments for news releases, event notices, media website details
o Increase Facebook & Twitter posts

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Qualified applicants will have:
o Effective written communication skills, including skill in proof reading for grammar and spelling
o Effective interpersonal and customer relations skills
o Ability to work well independently, but with some instruction and critique
o Ability to organize and manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
o Experience using Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Will train in online record-keeping and applications.

COMMITMENT:
o This is a Jan-May 2015 semester commitment, with opportunity to extend
o Preferred start date is December 2014 or by January 16, 2015 at latest
o Qualified applicants must be able to work 5-10 hours per week
o Work schedules will be designed to accommodate student class schedules/and or work
