Intern I Position Description:
An exciting opportunity to work on issues and programs of concern to people 50 plus. Work closely with AARP Nebraska Associate Director for Communications in supporting state and federal legislative priori- ties, community programs and events and the AARP Fraud Watch Network.
1. Arrange and coordinate speaking engagements for AARP Fraud Watch Network volunteers; assist with logistics and planning as needed; track results of volunteer speaking engagements; compile and send regular AARP Fraud Watch Network updates to volunteers; provide resources and publica- tions for volunteer activities and assist the ASD for Communications with outreach to community partners in planning joint fraud events.
2. PreparebiweeklynewsletterforAARPvolunteers.
3. Assist with state office communications via social media and the web. Draft blogs for the web pages and posts for Facebook and Twitter.
4. Assist with event planning and management.
5. Assist with volunteer communication and work closely with AARP staff and volunteers in providing support for State Plan events.
6. Workonassortedprojectsthatarescheduledthroughouttheyearwithanopportunityfortheintern to experience many different aspects of work ranging form meetings, listening sessions, public events, varied communication with volunteers/members and event preparation.
This is a paid internship.
Qualifications required:
 Currently enrolled as a student working on an undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, gerontology, political science, social work or liberal arts. Will consider all degrees and work related experience.
 Intern I position requires undergraduate studies, junior or senior year.
 Minimum GPA required is 3.0
 Able to work business hours, part-time 15 or more hours weekly.
 Experience using social media channels like Facebook, Twitter & You Tube. Computer
skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and online search tools.
 Able to commit to AARP Nebraska through term Sept. 12, 2016—Dec. 16, 2016.

1. Develop in-depth knowledge and research topics, gather background, prepare talking points, graphs and power points on AARP priority issues.
2. Arrange logistics, agenda and handouts for volunteer briefings, press conferences, etc.
3. Assist with volunteer communication and work closely with AARP staff and volunteers in providing support for State Plan events.
4. Draft articles for email updates for volunteers and maintain calendar of advocacy across Nebraska. Post approved advocacy content on Facebook, Twitter and the AARP Nebraska web page blog.
5. Workonassortedprojectsthatarescheduledthroughouttheyearwithanopportunityfortheintern to experience many different aspects of work ranging form meetings, listening sessions, public events, varied communication with volunteers/members and event preparation.
