Communications Assistantship, United States Olympic Committee

Based at the United States Olympic Committee’s headquarters in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado, the USOC communications assistantship is a year-long professional development opportunity for recent college graduates. The two divisional assistants (one Olympic-focused and one Paralympic-focused) support the organization’s communications operations, initiatives and publications.

The communications assistantship is paid (with full benefits) and requires a 12-month commitment. The year-long term will run from approximately Oct. 1, 2017, through Sept. 30, 2018. Applicants who wish to apply for the Olympic- or Paralympic-focused position (or both), should indicate their preference in their cover letter.

The selection process involves a phone screening, writing test and video interview.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Produce content for internal and external publications, and TeamUSA.org/USParalympics.org.
-Draft articles, press releases, media alerts and response letters.
-Manage the creation and distribution of weekly Team USA Sports Scene digital newsletter.
-Assist with research projects, editing and media outreach.
-Monitor national and international media for relevant news, and compile daily organizational clip reports.
-Support Team USA Awards nomination and voting processes, and announcements.
-Assist with the coordination of Olympic Training Center media requests, including scheduling and on-site facilitation.
-Assist with media operations at local events for both the USOC and National Governing Bodies.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

-Education: Recently completed (within three years) bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
-Must be within five years of receiving bachelor’s degree.
-Experience: 2-4 internships/positions in communications, journalism, public relations or related field.

Skills:

-Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
-Experience with Adobe Design Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
-Strong writing ability with demonstrated capacity to use AP style
-Familiarity with Olympic/Paralympic sport and the Olympic and Paralympic movements
-Excellent communication and human relations skills
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-Hourly wage: $14.42 per hour $30,000 annualized based on 40 hours per week.
