Associate News Director, Platte River Radio (Hastings, NE)

We’re looking for somebody who enjoys being on-air, writing news and local interest stories, and who has the desire and know-how to spread that information across social media and digital platforms.

We’re a smallish but hard-working and fun company. No day is ever the same; and no day is spent just sitting around. Our ideal person is always looking for another idea to enhance the ways we serve our audience.

If you can think of story ideas on your own, take direction, and jump in as needed, you’re the right fit.

This is 2017, so a strong technology foundation is a must. If you can record, take pictures, edit, post, and tweet in quick order we’d like to talk to you. If you can do all that on a smartphone from the field, even better.

The majority of your work would be in our news department working under the direction on the News Director to write stories, conduct interviews, record packages, and deliver newscasts.

This position will also require some commercial production and the opportunity to have an air shift on our community focused station.

We do a tremendous amount of local sports on our stations. If you’re sports inclined that is great, but not required. The ability to be a board op for some sports games will probably be called upon sporadically.

Must exhibit good local news instincts supervised by the News Director.

Good to excellent writing and presentation skills punctuality, attendance as well a professional dress and temperament will be equally considered as well as the ability to execute the core duties listed below.

General Duties Responsibilities and Skills:

-Strong computer skills including Wordpress -Ability to use digital editing program such as Adobe Audition -Gather news of local/area interest for broadcast, based on community needs and interests.
-Deliver daily newscasts as needed.
-Exercise the ability and judgment in choosing broadcast stories appropriate to the target and audience coverage area of the Platte River Radio Station in question.
-Primarily a 40-hour Monday-Friday workweek, however weekend news coverage involving breaking news/weather will be expected as needed.
-Monitor for breaking news and weather to ensure proper live coverage as warranted.
-Develop and cultivate news sources.
-Aid in news/sports updates on websites and social media as needed.
-Aid in recruitment of local figures to bring in special public service programming and announcements that will both fill a community need and compliment the sound of the station.
-Aid in keeping records of news and public affairs efforts used in the quarterly issues report for the FCC Public File.

Abilities that are helpful not required for initial hire include, on air host commercial production
