Professor Jessica Shoemaker moderated a session at the 2015 Great Plains Symposium. This year’s symposium, “Standing Bear and the Trail Ahead,” was co-sponsored by the Center for Great Plains Studies and the Nebraska Indian Affairs Commission. Shoemaker moderated a session called “Returning Lands for Repatriation and Cultural Empowerment.” The session featured Roger Welsch, a well-known Nebraska author, folklorist, and former senior correspondent on the CBS News Sunday Morning program, and Dr. James Riding In, a professor of American Indian Studies at Arizona State University and the editor of Wicazo Sa Review: A Journal of Native American Studies.
