A Message from Dean Pierce

WELCOME!

Welcome here and welcome back! I hope all of you have a good year. Remember, all of us in the Dean's Office and on the administrative team are here to help. Please don't hesitate to call on us. As a reminder, here are things that Dean’s Office staff members can help you with:

Patty Cavanagh - Receptionist - reception and general information, change of address forms, sign-up sheets for lockers, student organization event forms, reservation of rooms and tables for student organization use, faxes.

Vicki Lill - Registrar - drop/add, registration and class questions, transcript requests, grades, loan deferments, change of address forms, programs of concentrated study, externships, pro bono initiative, graduation questions, degree applications, Nebraska bar exam applications.

Jamie Cruise – Dean Poser’s Assistant – appointments with Dean Poser, general information.

Lisa Lightner – Dean Pierce’s Assistant – general information, student organizations, slides for the monitors, Sounding Block articles.

PROFILE OF THE CLASS OF 2016

We welcome 127 first year J.D. students, 4 M.L.S. students, 2 transfer students, and 4 LL.M students. We had 558 applications for our JD program at the Law College this year. There are 61 (48%) women and 66 (52%) men in the first year class. The median age of our new students is 24. The median LSAT is a 155 and the median GPA is a 3.61.

UPCOMING FUN EVENTS

ALL-COLLEGE PICNIC, BOCCE BALL AND BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS AND MEL SHINN ACTIVITIES DAY

Mark your calendars now for Friday, September 20. We will have an all-school picnic on the Law College grounds at 12:00. The Bocce Ball and Badminton Championship Rounds will be played during this time.

The Mel Shinn activities that will begin later in the afternoon or evening include fun run/walk, tennis, basketball, biking, and bowling. The mini-golf in the library will begin in the morning. These activities are for all students, staff and faculty. Watch for the registration tables in the lobby for the Mel Shinn sports activities in the near future.

Sign up NOW for the bocce ball and badminton tournaments in the Dean’s Office. The deadline to sign up for bocce ball and badminton is this Friday, August 30.

WORKING DURING LAW SCHOOL

Reminder: Law students may not work more than 20 hours a week during the academic year.
