Community Legal Education Program

(CLEP) will be starting its Spring 2014 programming soon, and that we will be looking for student volunteers in the very near future. Not sure what the CLEP is? Here's a run down of the specifics:

Who: A student organized, student supported organization that is dedicated to engaging local elementary and high school students in critical thinking about the law, government, and their citizenship. You might remember that we emailed you earlier last fall looking for volunteers for our Constitution Day programming (which we happily note was so well received that we've been asked to come again next year!).

What: We have two programs in the spring split by age group:
--- Elementary School Program - Affectionately called "Con Law for Kids," the elementary program reviews basic civics for 3rd through 5th grade students over a period of 6 weeks.
--- High School Program - The high school programming is done in single session lessons, and is great for people who want to volunteer but may not have a consistent schedule or time to participate every week.

When: Both programs run from February through mid March. We match volunteers and classrooms based on volunteers' schedules.

Why:
--- The kids! Every year that we run this program, the feedback is consistent: everyone seems to really enjoy kids and the opportunity to give back to the community.
--- Pro bono credit: This is an opportunity to earn credit toward a pro bono certificate, and one of the only ways to earn pro bono credit as a 1L.
--- We will also feed you at the first meeting and the training sessions.

I sincerely hope that you consider joining us for CLEP programming this spring. We are only able to undertake these projects with your support and time. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with us.

Enjoy the rest of your winter break, and watch for another email from us with the date of our introductory meeting!

Best wishes,
